LG's smallest OLED yet, the 48" CX has been hotly anticipated as being both small enough to be used as a big monitor, and, at $1,500, inexpensive enough to consider as a TV upgrade to compliment the new Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 gaming consoles (due to HDMI 2.1 support for 4K 120 gaming).

I'm soooooo torn. Got my PS5 day one, and already have an LG 34WK95U (the 5K2K bigboi) which does colours so beautifully, but 16:9 content on the NanoIPS has caused bars to be burnt in on the edges. I want to get a 16:9 display with HDMI 2.1 and 4K HDR to avoid it happening again, especially as the bigboi is no longer covered by warranty, but is this TV really worth it?

I just made the move. I wanted to upgrade size wise and most reports (e.g. from hardware unboxed) were unanimous that 40+ inches 4k monitors are still very underwhelming (especially considering their price). This OLED TV though has unanimously good reviews so I pulled the trigger. I can give 3 main feedbacks. First the response time and input lag in game mode is great. I do not see any difference compared to my previous PC monitor. This thing handles just like a monitor and if you didn't know it's a tv you wouldn't guess. Second, the colors and blacks are just phenomenal in my opinion. So if it's mostly important for you that games, movies etc just look amazing (vs for instance pure performance in FPS) then this is the way to go. Gaming on this thing is an experience! (I have a water cooled RTX3080 pushing pixels to it) Third, the size. You get used to having such a big display on your desk really quickly. It feels strange maybe the first day or two but after this adaptation time it's not an issue at all. You need at least 100cm desk depth though, realistically. keep in mind that 20cm are lost due to the "buttock hump". Any desk depth between 100 and 120 cm will do great. I wouldn't use this on a 60 or 70cm deep desk. I was also looking more for a 42 or 43" display initially, now I feel like 48 ain't that big actually. Definitely big enough but not overwhelming at all. I would not switch it for a 42" version even if I could. Tech Chap the reviewer gave the feedback that he had to switch back after one month, but you'll see in his video that his desk is really narrow. He's clearly missing 40cm desk depth. Just as an info my desk depth is about 110 cm. One more point, make sure you use an ultra high speed HDMI cable when gaming. Destiny2 for instance looked all glimmery and off until I received my HDMI 2.1 cable. Then all of a sudden the game looked gorgeous. I suspect my previous cable just didn't have the bandwith to send textures fast enough. Also make sure your room will be dark to semi-dark without any light source behing you (like a window). This thing has a glossy pannel and being an OLED, has limited brightness. I'm in a semi dark room, meaning there are windows just not with direct exposure to the tv and I have 0 reflection or brightness issue. You'll need to invest some time customizing all of the TV's parameters. But it's well worth it. This will be my display for the next 5 to 10 years. If you're still hesitating, my advice would be order it from a trusted shop where you know you'll be able to bring it back/return it and try it out in your setup. Chances are you won't need to return it ;)

If you're connecting this to a PC do you need the RTX 30 series or would it work with the RTX 20 series? I just bought this TV and a ultra high speed HDMI cable for the PS5 and Xbox series x. Do I need another for my PC? I remember hearing that no Nvidia graphics card to this day support HDMI 2.1 and if this is true do I need to upgrade from DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 on my PC?

i recently bought a 55 inch oled and fell so in love with its gaming performance that i am actually using it as a monitor now. The ergonomics of an 55 inch monitor ist quiet huge, but i got used to it pretty quick and i sometimes use windowed or borderless modes on lower resolution (or custom resultion) ingame when the picture get too big to handle

I have a C9 oled and its on for an average of 16 hours a day and I have had it about a year. No issues at all. The task bar at the bottom of my screen is almost always showing and I play Second Life quite a bit and the UI for the viewer has not burned into my screen yet. The only thing I don't like about the C9 for a monitor is the brightness on the screen ramps up and down on its own if there is a static image and I can't turn that off. Its a built in protection to help prevent logos from burning in.

OLED "burn-in" is the number one reason I'm longing for eventual micro-LED big gaming format monitors, rather than OLED or mini-LED monitors (which is different from micro-LED). Sadly it's going to be a long time.
Star1 child
Star1 child Vor 4 Tage
It's an issue and always will be with the "organic" factor/variant of light emitting diodes. LG have some kind of pixel shifting algorithm for static coloured pixels that hardly move and in addition the algorithm will turn down the brightness of static logos, score result boxes and things like HUD information within games. I don't see how they can pixel-shift enough when there are thick logos and HUD boxes; therefore reducing the brightness is not ideal. I've seen many reviews and comments from owners of OLED's with screen burn, it's not nice. The technology may have prolonged the time that OLED burn-in may happen, but it will eventually happen and more so if your viewing content has static logos (football match score boxes, game show quiz score info, game HUD's, TV channel logos). I believe it's the "blue" self-illuminating OLED pixel that is the culprit and has shorter degradation life-span than the red and green OLED pixels. I would say not to worry too much if you will be primarily using the OLED TV to watch movies and programs without static info boxes, as the viewing quality will be exceptional with inky blacks. For me personally I would be wanting to use for both movies and games with emphasis on the latter; therefore I will have consider a BFGD gaming LED/LCD monitor (like ROG Swift PG43UQ 43") until large display format "micro-LED" screens become a thing (not mini-LED, they are completely different).
Steve Nordquist

Lol how do you find ratings for OLED burn-in to see whether it's still an issue with a given model? Or do you have a bright room that burns them in from without?

Sorry Oled =Burn in with static images. Gaming has static images. You have a static Windows 10 Desktop with Icons. Never ever.Even if you change your images constantly or Shut the TV off on a Black screen. They will never perfect it. Not running it full brightness what's the point? I saw another video with the RTINGS results. Call of Duty No Burn in. Fifa. Burn in . Besides worrying about burn in takes away the enjoyment. Oleds are awesome But not for gaming. And with a desktop with static Icon's. let's see you made this OCT 20th . If it's been used everyday, It has burn in by now. I watch a lot of your videos you are very smart.
